although & though

Although ( = though ) she smokes 40 cigarettes a day, she is quite fit. )

I’d quite like to go out, (al)though it is a bit late.

(Al)though the traffic was bad, I arrived on time.

I didn't get the job (al)though I had all the necessary qualifications.

( even although ) نادرست است.

Even though I didn't understand the word, I kept smiling.

I couldn't sleep even though I was really tired.

It was a quiet party. I had a good time, though.

I see him every day.I've never spoken to him though.

Although she was tired, she went to work.= She was tired but she went to work.

Although she was tired but she went to work.

III. Passage Comprehension

Read the following text and then answer the questions.

Have ever seen a greenhouse? Most greenhouses look like a small glass house.

Greenhouses are used to grow plants, especially in the winter. Greenhouses work by trapping heat from the sun. The glass surface of the greenhouse lets light in but keeps heat from getting out. This keeps the plants warm enough to live in the winter. The earth's atmosphere is all around us and is the air that we breathe. The atmosphere works like a greenhouse, too. The sun makes the earth warm. The earth sends some heat back into space, and that helps keep the earth from getting too hot. Most of the earth's heat is trapped by the atmosphere. Like the glass roof of a greenhouse, the atmosphere keeps most of the heat from going back into space. The fact that the atmosphere traps heat is called the "greenhouse effect". It's similar to what happens in a greenhouse. Without the greenhouse effect, the earth would not be warm enough for humans to live. But if the greenhouse effect becomes stronger, it could make the earth warmer than usual. The point is that even a little extra warming may cause problems for humans, plants and animals.

51. A greenhouse is where             .

a. harmful gases are produced

b. plants needing warmth are grown

c. we can peacefully breathe

d. dangerous gases go into effect

52. The atmosphere is similar to a greenhouse since it            .

a. helps plants absorb heat

b. is made of glass

c. traps heat

d. has harmful effect

53. Without the greenhouse effect,                  .

a. there would be no life on the earth

b. plants would grow normally

c. there would be no pollution

d. the earth would be too hot to live on

54. A small increase in the earth's temperature              .

a. may put our lives in danger

b. can make the greenhouse effect stronger

c. can be ignored

d. may cause the heat go back into space

                                                   Good Luck!

The female sardine begins to lay its eggs when it is between 2 and 4 years old. It is then about eight inches long. The female lays about 100,000 eggs, which float on the surface of the water .The eggs hatch in two or three days.

Sardines are a healthful food that contains many rich oils and vitamins. They are usually canned, and are eaten in salads and sandwiches. Some of the best sardines come from the coasts of Norway and Portugal. The sardine is used also as a food for cattle and chickens, and young sardines are used by fishermen as bait to catch other fish. There were three famous sisters named Bronte. Their names were Charlotte, Emily, and Anne, and they were all writers. They were daughters of a clergyman, and had two older sisters and a brother. They went to a very strict school when they were girls, and later they became teachers and governesses. Charlotte’s most famous novel was Jane Eyre, a story of

some of her experiences in school and as a governess. Emily wrote Wuthering Heights, a tragic love story that describes the countryside in which the girls were brought up. Anne wrote two good novels, Agnes Grey and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, but neither was as great as her sisters'. All the sisters wrote under “pen-names,” calling themselves Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell, and for a long time not even their publishers knew who they really were. Charlotte, Emily and Anne all died of tuberculosis at an early age.

Charlotte Bronte was born in 1816 and died in 1855. She was the only sister who married and she lived longest, though she was only 39 when she died. Emily, born in 1818, died in 1848, when she was barely 30, and Anne, born in 1820, died in 1849, aged 29. Their brother Branwell Bronte, whom they loved and admired very much, was born in 1817 and died in 1848.
